My name is Sean and I have adult acne.
I always had fine pimples all along my forehead as a teen, but nothing you could call a bad case of acne. My skin took a turn for the worse when I decided to embrace my naturally curly afro at 20 years old. Being a GHD addict, I had no clue how to care for my curls so to Google I went for hair advice. Coconut oil was preached as the gospel for my hair type. I used it religiously for at least a year before I realised I was coconut oil-sensitive and that’s what was causing the cystic acne everywhere my hair touched my skin.
Fast forward to 22 and I’m still trying to get a handle on my pimple-prone skin, even completely avoiding coconut oil!
Mass market skincare brands and dermatologist appointments just left me broke and disappointed. It was early this year that I realized if using all-natural products is doing such wonders for my hair, why not try it for my skin? This has really helped my skin and without putting unpronounceable chemicals into my system too! Some skin days are better than others, and the bad ones make me want to hide where nobody can see me. Joining the world of beauty blogging really helped me realise that hiding is not going to help anyone- not me, or the girl who follows me assuming I have flawless skin. That is why there is no editing beyond a Valencia filter (“I wanna look tan you know?”) on any Sean Goes Natural platform- I want real women to realise that beauty lies in self-love, not in clear skin or perfect hair. We can be our own worst critics, when we really need to be our own best friends.
